Taxonomy

The areas knowledge is filed under. This is a starter set — replace it during setup with the company's real areas.

A brain with no taxonomy becomes a junk drawer within a month. A brain with thirty areas becomes a filing problem nobody wants to solve. Aim for six to twelve, named after how people actually talk.

Starter areas

  • product — what we build and how it behaves
  • engineering — architecture, systems, technical decisions
  • sales — positioning, pricing, objections, process
  • support — how we handle customers, escalation paths
  • finance — billing, contracts, spend, approvals
  • people — hiring, onboarding, policies, benefits
  • legal — terms, compliance, data handling
  • company — strategy, goals, decisions, history

Rules

  • One area per page. If a page genuinely spans two, it is probably two pages.
  • An area needs an owner. An area with no owner accumulates pages nobody reviews, which is how the brain rots from one corner outward.
  • Do not create an area for a single page. Put it in the closest existing one and split later if it grows.
  • Renaming an area means updating every page's frontmatter. Do it deliberately, not casually.

Area owners

Record them here during setup:
