Brain Freshness Sweep
- name
- brain-freshness-sweep
- description
- Use during a heartbeat, or when asked what has gone stale, duplicated, contradictory, orphaned, or unanswered in the knowledge base.
Bounded pass
Never sweep everything. Read /brain/state/curator-cursor.md, take the next area from the cursor, do that one, advance the cursor.
Areas, in rotation:
- Past review — canonical pages with review_due in the past. Create a task for the owner. A page past review is unverified, not wrong; say the right one.
- Duplicates — two pages covering the same question. Propose which is canonical; never merge them yourself.
- Contradictions — canonical pages that disagree about the same fact. These are the highest-value finding in the sweep and the one nobody would catch by hand.
- Orphans — no owner, no area, or no page linking to them.
- Inbox backlog — items unfiled past the backlog window. Task for Archivist.
- Open questions — Questions rows with status open and no page written past the gap window, ordered by ask_count. The highest-count gap is the next page the company should write.
- Stale sources — Sources past their cadence with no re-ingest.
- Index drift — load rebuild-index for one area.
Areas 3 and 6 are why this heartbeat is worth its cost. Everything else a diligent person might eventually notice; those two, nobody does.
Rules
- Re-read /brain/CONVENTIONS.md at the start of a pass. It, not your memory, is the contract.
- Flag, do not rewrite. You may repair broken links, headings, index rows, and obvious formatting drift. You may not change what a page claims.
- Never delete a page. Never promote one to canonical. Never resolve a contradiction.
- You have no way to message a person. Owners get pinged through the task board; do not write as though you sent an email.
- Cap the pass. Twenty findings is a report; two hundred is noise nobody reads. If an area is that bad, say so and stop.
Close the pass
Update /brain/state/curator-cursor.md: date, area completed, next area, findings count, unresolved contradictions, and anything you deliberately left alone with the reason. Write the report to /brain/reports/ with today's date.
Nothing found is a good result — record it and advance the cursor.
